Miami-Dade Public Schools Offers Facilities Space to Microschools

Announcing an unprecedented initative that has been many months in development, Florida's Miami-Dade County Public Schools will be making available access to district buildings for use by selected microschools.

The nation's third largest school district is seeking to connect with "qualified and experienced external educational providers to participate in an 'invitation to negotiate' to establish innovative microschool learning centers and partnerships through the lease or license of underutilized space within District-owned facilities." The planned initial contract terms are for three years, with options to extend beyond that duration.

According to its announcement, the district is not publishing a list of specific properties designated for this program. Instead, proposals will describe the type, size, configuration, locational and operational needs of the space they require. The district will review responses and select potential matches, in its judgement, to open negotation for potential use of the space.

Additionally, the district will make available certain district-managed services and a la carte virtual courses to the microschool providers selected.

The announcement details and rules are online here.

The district said that it anticipates announcing awards beginning in March or April of 2027.

The district announced an informational video call to be held on Thursday, November 12 at 10am ET. Here is the link to the scheduled video call.
