RAND Corporation Survey Information

Researchers from the RAND Corporation are conducting a research study to better understand
the goals, climate, and success metrics of microschools. The purpose of this study is to better
understand this emerging trend in education, and the benefits it may offer to students and
families. This study is funded by the Walton Family Foundation.

You are being invited to participate in a survey of microschool leaders about the factors driving
interest in microschools, the guiding principles for organizing them, and what educators and
families see as the key metrics for success.  This survey will take about 15 minutes, and can be
taken at https://qualtricsxmxnlws26gh.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1TSztvH7xCBgbPg

If you believe another individual in your organization would be more appropriate to complete this survey, please feel free to forward this information to them. We ask that only one school leader or administrator complete this survey from each organization.

By participating, you will have the opportunity to make a contribution to knowledge about
drivers and best practices in this growing education sector. The findings of these surveys will be
summarized and used to understand the current microschool climate. Your answers will
remain confidential and anonymous, and no information will be collected which can identify
you or your school. If you are part of a microschool network, the network will not receive any
information about whether or not you choose to participate.

In addition to our survey of microschool leaders, we are also looking to collect information from
parents of students attending microschools. We also have a letter to parents inviting them to
participate in a separate survey, which can be found here: parent survey information.

Regardless of whether you choose to participate in our survey of school leaders, we would
greatly appreciate you sharing this letter with parents of students attending your school.

This is a continuation of the same RAND survey we shared in the spring. If you participated
then your responses have already been captured, but the parent survey can still be shared with
families of students at your school if you have not already done so.

Parents who participate will be asked if they would like to identify the school that their child
attends. If at least 5 parents of students from your school participate, we will be able to
generate a report summarizing the survey results specific to your school. If you would like to
receive this report, please contact Sarah Ohls at sohls@rand.org with the name and state of
your school.

If you have any other questions about the study, please contact Jonathan Schweig
at jschweig@rand.org.

Thank you in advance for your consideration. We value your input.
