“We’re Building a Civil Society from Scratch”

James Lomax, founder of LifeSkills Academy in Las Vegas, explained in a feature article by reporter Jackie Valley in the Christian Science Monitor's weekly magazine that as a leader in Nevada's vibrant microschooling landscape, his purpose and motivation share a wide base of different aspects of public good. As a veteran Naval aviator, U.S. Naval Academy graduate, a parent, and an engineer, Lomax decided to undertake launching his vibrant Acton Academy to bring something new, and valued, to the Southern Nevada community where he lives and works.

"Here, they’re 'learners' who chart their own educational journey through critical thinking and project-based learning," writes veteran education journalist Jackie Valley. "They even make up the classroom rules. The two teachers, known as “learning guides,” take a supporting role in the background."
