National Microschooling Center's Thursday Bulletin

Hello Microschooling Community!

With the start of summer, many microschool leaders are taking a break to get out of doors to recharge, while founders preparing to open their doors for the first time are meeting each challenge with renewed urgency. Our Center team has been running training workshops across the South, finishing with another Standing Room Only workshop in Little Rock, fielding questions and requests from founders every day (have we heard from you?) and preparing for our next session in Mississippi next week.

Meanwhile, what’s important that you should know right now? The most important, latest updates from the Treasury Department address which microschools can expect to participate in the new federal tax credit scholarship program explained below. Which regulations do founders nationally say are proving most problematic and hardest to solve? Plus new provider offerings!

Which Microschools Can Participate in the New Federal Tax Credit Program?

Will microschools in states that opt into the new federal tax credit scholarship program be allowed to participate in the program? Don Soifer provides a detailed update on different aspects of the program that addresses this and other essential details. According to details provided in a briefing last week by the senior Treasury Department official responsible for the program, microschools operating as private schools recognized by their state can expect to be included. Don explains preparations they should consider.

For microschools serving students whose families follow their state’s homeschool requirements, however, their answer may largely depend on details in their state law. And the National Microschooling Center is staying squarely involved championing the most opportunities for the most microschoolers.

What Regulations are Impacting Microschools

the Most?

In her article this week, the Center’s Chief Innovation Officer, Ashley Soifer, takes a look at what the latest research tells us about which government requirements took the longest for founders to understand and comply with before launching their microschool. The top four answers, coming from 58% of respondents, all involve local business regulations, not education policies. Read the full article here.

Introducing the Access Point: the Center’s new Learning Tool and Provider Catalog

The Access Point is our comprehensive catalog of Center-vetted resources, from curriculum to insurance and more! This catalog combines our Learning Tools and Partnership Provider Programs into a one-stop shop where founders can learn about resources such as Center purchased Learning Tools and offerings from providers willing to work with microschools. These historic Center programs cut through red tape, offering microschools access to tools they might otherwise be unable to procure. Many of the providers also offer discounts or promos for Center members. Check out the Access Point here, and become a Center member to receive special promos, discounts, and subscriptions. Watch this section of the weekly newsletter for information on new and spotlighted providers.

Learning Tools

The National Microschooling Center's Learning Tool Program is back for the 2026-2027 school year and better than ever (if we may say so ourselves...). We have added not one, not two, not three, but four new programs to our Catalog! In addition to ExploreLearning, Zearn, Rosetta Stone, Mindplay, IXL, Lexia, and i-Ready, we now offer licenses for Renaissance, Learning A-Z, Defined Learning, and Leader in Me. If you are interested in learning more about the programs we currently work with, we recommend you browse our Learning Tool Catalog available in the Access Point. When you're ready to purchase for the 2026-2027 school year, please submit this form and Sarah from our team will contact you within 1-2 business days to begin the process and answer any questions you may have.

If you're new to the Center or our Learning Tool Program, here is some information for you. We started the Learning Tool Program to give microschool leaders access to tools that would otherwise be unavailable due to the large minimum purchase requirements set by the programs. Additionally, all of the learning tools we add to our catalog are based on member demand and interest. If there are enough interested members to purchase a learning tool, then we do our best to work with that program so that our members can implement the programs they feel best meet their learners' needs. Fun fact: For the 2025-2026 school year, over 2,000 students received access to these programs through the Center's Learning Tool Program!

Introducing Bloomy!

This week, we're introducing our newest Partnership Provider, Bloomy, a mastery-based English Language Arts platform for grades 4-12 that helps microschools and families strengthen reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Students work through short lessons, adaptive practice, and mastery checks with support from BloomyBot, a Socratic AI tutor that gives hints and feedback without simply handing over answers. Educators and parents can track progress by skill, making Bloomy useful for core ELA blocks, enrichment, or targeted intervention. Special pricing is available for Center members. Make sure you check out Bloomy in Access Point, and reach out for an introduction!
