A new article today in The 74 suggests that some microschools in certain states may be in danger of being excluded (read on for details) unless federal officials issue new clarification preventing state officials from adding their own barriers to participation.

Protecting Microschools' Eligibility for Federal Tax Credit Scholarships
A new article in The 74 by Linda Jacobson details latest developments on the question of ensuring microschools in every participating state will legally be able to participate in the new federal tax credit scholarship program coming online in 2027. Our Don Soifer observes in the piece, because of the way certain states define types of private schools, the way the current program rules are written, some microschools would be in danger of being excluded by state-level decisions. The National Microschooling Center has led the charge to protect the ability of microschool families to access the program.
The Backgrounds of New Microschool Founders
Founders of new microschools bring diverse backgrounds to the work they are creating, with many coming to this work with experience as licensed public school educators,according to 2026 research published by the National Microschooling Center. As this new article on the Center’s website discusses, more than a third of prelaunch founders are currently working as classroom teachers or administrators, with two in five currently holding teaching licenses.

Miaplaza Spotlight
In the coming weeks, we'll be spotlighting each provider in the Center's Partnership Provider Program (P3). Each provider has completed an application and interview process, and has been accepted for offering a microschool-friendly product or service and demonstrating an intent to learn more about and serve the microschooling sector.
